I was one of the lucky ones that got to sit front row for the Autumn Fashion Fix hosted by Highcross shopping centre in Leicester city centre. The clothes were amazing, the atmosphere electric and the crowd unexpectedly large. There was an introduction by Laura Puddy; Cosmopolitan’s Catwalk to Curvy writer who started the show as a means to go on. The show was very professional, sleek and flowed smoothly, which led to a roaring applause at the end.

In celebration of the Autumn Fashion Fix, DMU opened a pop-up shop, where clothes were made by DMU fashion students, and it was brilliant. Some of the pieces were so intricate and was incredibly professional looking; definitely proud of being a student at DMU if this is the quality of work our students can produce. Well done guys!

The show covered six scenes, all of which were outstanding and showcased this season’s trends:

  1. The Cosmo Edit
  2. Faux Fur
  3. Tapestry Folk
  4. Shades of Red
  5. New Pastels
  6. Metallics

My personal favourite scene was ‘Metallics’ – I loved every single outfit in this scene, especially the floor length Phase Eight embellished metallic dress (photos appear later, so hold your suspense…). As metallics were a S/S trend, it looks like this has been transferred through to Autumn because we can’t get enough of metallics!

Faux Fur and Tapestry Folk are expected for Autumn trends, however the New Pastels scene surprised me as pastels are commonly more associated with Spring. Therefore, with pastels and metallics on trend this season, we can expect a brighter and less dull fashion season. I love it!
