American Horror Story

American Horror Story has taken the UK by storm and having watched all 3 seasons currently available, I can see why! The show is like none other – there’s romance, murder, supernatural and demonic forces and all those other themes we just love as viewers!

I won’t lie, it took me a bit of time to get into the show. At first I was confused as to what was happening and I was also afraid – it’s a very scary show! Why I chose to watch it by myself, in a dark room I have no idea, but that happened and I may have slept with the lights on…But if you keep at the show, the story becomes clearer and you learn to love the scary bits.

What I love about the show is that you don’t have to have seen season one in order to understand the following seasons. So many series these days drag on for 8 seasons and you still don’t know who the killer is, but AHS is refreshing, as each season follows a different storyline, all each as exciting as the last.

Season one, Murder House, follows the Hammon family who have recently moved to LA in order to start a new life, but little do they know that the new house they’ve moved into has a sinister history. New information is introduced with each episode, keeping the viewer on the edge at all times; making you more intrigued to watch the next episode as soon as you can! If you enjoy jumpy shows or films, then this is definitely the season to watch. It reminded me slightly of The Woman in Black, so much suspense and you are constantly on the edge of your seat.

Asylum, season two, is set in an insane asylum (as you may have guessed from the title) and follows the murderer ‘Bloody Face’ (yep, it’s as scary as it sounds!). The season includes all you’d ever want from an insane asylum – nuns, demons, murderers and all that nice stuff. It is definitely not for the faint hearted or squeamish. It pushes boundaries but that’s the beauty of AHS and it’s perfect for a scary Halloween night!

Season three is all about witches and it’s called Coven; this was probably my favourite season! The season is centred on a coven of witches in New Orleans, Louisiana. A lot tamer than the previous in regards to supernatural forces and murderers, but it still has its fair share of gory bits and magic for your viewing pleasure.

The fourth season of American Horror Story is currently only available in the US (boo!), so here in the UK we will just have to wait and see what the Freak Show brings to town.

If you are looking for a television series that is gripping, has exciting storylines and some ace acting, then AHS is probably the show for you! Each season will keep you on the edge of your seat and you’ll be itching to start the next one….but, can you handle the horror?
