For this year’s Children In Need, the BBC are bringing us a cover of Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ which has been recorded by Gareth Malone, OBE and BAFTA winner for his TV series The Choir.

Now you may be thinking that choir means a chorus of middle aged women who meet at the local social club, but this line up is a little more notable. Radio One host Alice Levine, comedienne Jo Brand, and Bake Off’s Mel Giedroyc are just some of the acts lending their voices to this years charity single, which is headed for a UK number one this Sunday.

Gareth, who has previously gotten charity related number ones with Military Wives, as well as helping Gary Barlow create the single for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, has told the Official Charts Company that “Children in Need has a huge impact on the lives of children in the UK and if the single helps then it will be a proud day for everyone involved.”

I’ve heard Alice mention the single a few times on her Radio One show (Saturday and Sunday 1-4) and it’s evident that everyone involved is proud of how their participation may help to change the lives of children in England. The process of recording the single has been shown on BBC over the past few weeks, with the celebrities recording in the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.
