First things first, Junot Diaz is the realist.

I looooved this book! This isn’t the first time I’ve read something by Diaz so I was already expecting something good, but this book exceeded my expectations. Diaz is an incredible writer who’s not afraid To be different. I admire him a lot.
Here’s a quick summary of the book (I’ll try not to add any spoilers):
The book is mainly about a boy called Oscar but it also follows the lives of his family members. The book is half set in NY, America and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It’s written from the point of view from an external character who’s not part of the family, but he is re telling the story. There is a lot of slang and Spanish in this book but don’t let that deter you, it’s awesome.
I won’t say too much because I don’t want to ruin the story but if you like humorous and fresh stories about a boy and his family just trying to live; then you’ll love this. I give this book an 8/10!
I hope you enjoy this book too and be prepared to act like to remember the Spanish you were taught in school!
