Top 10 Films To Look Forward To In 2017 (Sequels, Remakes, Spinoffs & Extended Universe)
Now that 2016 is coming to an end, it is time to look to the future of cinema! This blog entry will be the first of two top 10 films to see in 2017 lists, this one will contain films that are either sequels, remakes, spinoffs or part of an extended universe. The next one will be a list of ‘original’ films. The below films are in no particular order, so let us begin!

In 2016, we finally got to see Spidey join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and what a brilliant first impression Tom Holland made as the web-slinger. In 2017 we will get to see him get his own film (though Iron Man will be making an appearance), and thankfully, no more Spider-Man origin stories!
Kong: Skull Island
King Kong has made his appearance in many on-screen iterations, and whilst this film won’t necessary be a sequel, it will start to form the Godzilla/King Kong universe. Godzilla was pretty poor, so lets hope they’ve learnt from their lessons. It’s the cast alone that has got me excited for this one.
I was a bit hesitant to add this one to the list, as the X-Men films can be a bit hit and miss, especially Hugh Jackman’s solo outings as Wolverine. However, after seeing the trailer, and curiosity as to what kind of depth an R-rating can give to this film, it does get me excited to see what they can deliver.
Star Wars: Episode 8

The as yet untitled eighth instalment in the Star Wars saga will undoubtedly be high up on peoples to watch list in 2017. Where we see the story lead our heroes is sure to be tightly sealed until the premiere, so whilst we wait, we’ll have to settle for all manner of elaborate fan theories. May the patience be with you.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
The sequel to the surprise hit of 2014 that will bring back our favourite ragtag group of heroes. This film will undoubtedly be an important cog in the machine that is the set up to Avengers: Infinity War that will be coming to screens the year after, so keep your eyes peeled, we may even get another glimpse of Thanos!
World War Z 2

I know a lot of people didn’t find World War Z amazing, though many of the criticisms I heard mainly came down to deviations from the book, something that I don’t consider valid criticism (thinking of it, I see a blog post about that subject in the future). Regardless, I really enjoyed the first one, and will be heading along to its sequel.
War for the Planet of the Apes

It took me a while to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes when they first rebooted the series in 2011, but I was pleasantly surprised at what they achieved. Its sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, was dare I say even better. I hope they can continue that momentum into the third instalment of the franchise.
DC and Warner Bros had a pretty rocky year with Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad. Whilst both a success at the box office, they received mixed reviews from fans and critics, and I firmly fall on the side of them being pretty poor films. I’m hoping Wonder Woman can bring something to the table that the others couldn’t. If this film follows in the footsteps of the aforementioned films, then I dare say that I won’t be bothering with the Justice League which will also be out in late 2017. However, the Wonder Woman Trailer does look pretty sweet.
A reboot of the 1999 film of the same name starring Brendan Fraser, this new adaption will see Tom Cruise lead the cast. As a child I quite enjoyed the 1999 version, even if it hasn’t aged too well, so despite knowing very little about what the 2017 version will have to offer, I’m pretty excited to see what they’ve made.
The Lego Batman Movie
The Lego Movie was another surprise hit of 2014, bringing something new to the animated film market. Now one of the most popular superheroes of all time is getting his own spin-off, and it looks to be just as fun as its predecessor, and he’s even brought some of his superhero (and villain) friends along to play.
What sequels or remakes are you looking forward to in 2017? Don’t forget, a second list will be up soon for original films!
